Have Fun When You Announce The News
Some women feel compelled to call people as soon as they discover they`re pregnant, while others choose instead to wait until they reach a certain stage in their pregnancy before letting anyone else know, but it does not matter whether you recently discovered that you are pregnant or you have known for several months, when the time comes for sharing the news with close friends and family members, you can have lots of fun with it.
Sharing The News With The Father:
One suggestion is planning a romantic candlelight dinner just for the two of you. The meal should include any foods which you are able to think of that have the word “baby” in them, such as baby-back ribs, baby-carrots, etc… Replace the wine with apple juice when you finish the meal, and give the father a gift. When he unwraps the present and opens the box, he could find a tiny bib which says “I love my daddy”. If he still doesn`t get it, you may want to rethink your plans for raising your child with him.
If, for whatever reason, the father is away and you are not able to share the news with him right then, consider having a care-package sent to him which could contain some baby items, all in pink and blue, with a book on baby names right in the middle. You could put a note right on the book which says “pick a name for me soon, I`m going to be here in (the month when the baby will be born)”.
Another option (which may actually be a little cruel) is to give him hints and see just how long its going to take him before he figures it out. Buy several little baby items at your local dollar-store, and leave one each day in a place where he cannot help but find it. If a week of this goes by and he has yet to get a clue, then its time to bring out the big gift, something that even he cannot ignore: for example, in the seat next to his at the table, put a giant teddy-bear with a bib around his neck with the words “Hi Daddy” written on it.
Sharing The News With Friends and Family:
Make an appearance at a family function wearing a t-shirt that says “I am pregnant”, or some other clever variation which clearly lets whoever reads it know about your state. This way, everyone in attendance will suddenly realize it without you needing to utter a word. This gives you just enough time to prepare yourself for the hugs and tears and the endless stream of questions which will undoubtedly follow in the excitement.
For the grandparents, particularly if this will be their first grandson or granddaughter, you may want to give them something like a bracelet or t-shirt which has something written on it referring to them as grandparents. In many ways, this is just as special for them as it is for you and the father. They have probably been waiting for this since the day you left the nest and moved into your own home. They will be able to hold on to this and cherish it for as long as they are around. Remember too that the grandparents will be your most trusted and willing babysitters during the next several years any time that you and the father need to take a break and have a night just for the two of you.
These are just some suggestions which may help you to come up with your own unique way of sharing the news.
The most important thing is just to try to be as creative as possible and have fun with this. The opportunity does not come around very often.
